Sara Lance [portrayed by Caity Lotz] in a character that exists within the CW’s collection of superhero television shows adapted from DC comic entities, known as the Arrowverse. Sara first debuted on the second season of the Arrowverse’s original show, Arrow, in 2013, and despite her developing romantic relationship with titular character Oliver Queen, Sara is confirmed very quickly to not be heterosexual, although her sexuality was not confirmed. It was not until Sara’s character moved from a recurring character on Arrow to a main character of Legends of Tomorrow that the character was confirmed to be bisexual, through a comment from one of the other characters on the show, “I know [Sara’s] bisexual, but . . .”

Sara does follow the common trend of bisexual characters being portrayed as being sexually promiscuous, shown to have several flings with women across history during both seasons of Legends of Tomorrow. What separates Sara from the majority of these kinds of characters is the fact that Sara isn’t defined by her promiscuity. Instead, Sara is more defined by her struggle against bloodlust in the first season of Legends of Tomorrow [a side effect of a resurrection that occurred during her time on Arrow] and then by her leadership of the Legends during the second season.

Unlike a large group of LGBT characters, Sara never had a ‘coming out’ storyline. Instead, she was simply shown to be bisexual from the moment that she was first introduced and it has instead been shown as just as a facet of her character, rather than a defining characteristic.
